Google Local
Overview: No one knows what’s happening in their own area anymore. With the loss of local news, people don’t know what their town or district is even up to anymore.
When are the local school board elections? When is the farmer’s market starting back up again? When is the high school prom?
These are things and information that once showed up on every doorstep in every town in America. But with the loss of local news, people rely on social media, word-of-mouth, and other tin can and string methods.
The ask: How can Google help make local news accessible to us, and how do we tie towns into a database of information and alerts to solve this challenge?
Solution: By Locals, For Locals
Sometimes the best advice is from a person close to you. Restaurant recommendations, recipes, you name it.
With Google Local, community conversation has never been more accessible.

Google Local releases a community question every month engaging both citizens and businesses.
The question will be promoted in local businesses through flyers, QR codes, and social posts.
Community members participate and vote for their “Local Favorites.”
Winners are sent a poster, window-display sticker, and are given a digital badge on google apps indicating that establishment as a local favorite.
